Troop 135 Summit Bechtel Trip Recap and Appreciation
We had an excellent trip to the Summit Bechtel Scouting High Adventure Base in southeast West Virginia last week, and the Scouts on the trip should be very proud of all of their successful experiences there.

Throughout the week our Scouts and adult advisors had many adventures and activities, including whitewater rafting on the famous New River, ziplining on the ¾-mile long Big Zip, jumping into a 40-foot drop on the tethered Leap of Faith, rock climbing, mountain biking, archery, and riflery.
On this trip, Mason Scott, Danny Hurley, and Michael Evans completed the requirements to receive the prestigious Scouting Grand Slam Award for attending all four of the Scouting High Adventure Bases over the past few years.
We had a great time and enjoyed meeting other Scouts and adult advisors from across the U.S. The mountains and river gorges of West Virginia are very, very beautiful.
The success of our trip was truly a major team effort. We really appreciate the Scouts who had crew leadership roles:
| Scout | Role |
|---|---|
| Danny Hurley | Crew Leader |
| Nico Danker | Chaplain’s Aide |
| Brayden Hamilton | Wilderness Guide |
We really appreciate Mason Scott for leading the development of our excellent Summit Bechtel crew shirts.
We really appreciate Mr. Connell and Mr. Danker for being adult advisors on the trip. They provided outstanding adult guidance and care as our Scouts worked together in their many roles throughout the week.
We also really appreciate Mr. Scott for reserving our flights, submitting our flight rosters, and collecting/checking all of our health forms for the trip.
A great thank you to Scoutmaster Mrs. Kern as well for her strong support as we were planning this trip.
We plan to present our Summit Bechtel photos and stories at a meeting in late September, and we will award our Scouts and adult advisors their Summit Bechtel patches then. All Troop 135 Scouts and their families will be invited to this meeting.
